Day 1 Barcelona - Valencia - Puerto de la Cruz (440 Km.)

(in 350 Km.) Valencia: We arrived at Valencia to discover the new complex dedicated to culture, science, technology and nature. L´Oceanogràfic is composed for eleven underwater buildings or towers located around a large lake. These towers are interconnected by floating walkways and landscaped roads. It is a place that allows us to learn about the behavior and way of life of over 45,000 marine specimens of 500 species (dolphins, penguins, fish, etc.).

The Príncipe Felipe Science Museum is an interactive space dedicated to new technologies that regularly renews its contents. The building is configured as a large roof supported by a transparent glass façade. L´Umbracle is the gate of entry to the City of Arts and Sciences, a green area of free access to 7,000 square meters, 320 meters long and 60 meters wide. It consists of a succession of 55 fixed arches and 54 floating arches of 18 meters high.

l´Hemisfèric, building that houses an IMAX, a planetarium, etc., symbolizes a big human eye that is open to the world through a pond. The pupil is the hemispherical dome of the projection room that visually is transformed into a complete sphere when reflected in the pond. The eyelashes would be the glassed cancelli. The Palau de les Arts, a building designed by architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava, represents for the city of Valencia and the Community of Valencia dispose of best infrastructure to introducing them into the international circuits, particularly in relation to the opera and musical great spectacles.

We started visiting the city by the North Station, an excellent example of valencian modernism. We arrived at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, with neoclassical buildings as the Post Office and the City Hall. We continue until the Palacio del Marqués de Dos Aguas in Rococo style, which houses the National Ceramic Museum with its marble facade of carved alabaster by Ignacio Vergara. From La Paz street we go to the Church of Santa Catalina, with a graceful Baroque tower. Beside is the Cathedral, romanesque temple with transition to Gothic, where highlights the Chapel of the Holy Grail, the Altar and the Miquelet (bell tower with a magnificent view of the city).

At the gate of the Apostles, every Thursday from more than 1000 years ago, meet the trustees of the Tribunal de las Aguas: the judgments, totally verbal are concerned with resolving conflicts through the use irrigation water. Beside is the Plaza de la Virgen with Basilica of Our Lady of the Forsaken. From here we go to the Palau de la Generalitat (XV century). Walking down the Caballeros street we find the St. Nicholas Church (XIV century).

To finish we visited La Lonja, the emblematic building of the city, declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1996. It´s a building from the 15th century formed by the Hall of Columns, the Tower and the Consulate with the "Patio de los Naranjos". Another recommendable visit is the Central Market, a modernist building.

(in 90 Km.) Puerto de la Cruz: Late in the afternoon we go to Manises airport for take the flight bound for Tenerife. Once in South Tenerife airport a bus takes us to our hotel in the Puerto de La Cruz.
